[Autumn Tsushima Yellowtail Casting 2025]
Miyazaki "Casting Buddy" Takamaru 3 Days Challenge with Su-chan
We gathered at Miyazaki Airport for the morning flight the day before. Bad weather disrupted our plans, and our flight the day before was cancelled. The Fukuoka-Tsushima flight schedule was disrupted, so we managed to make it in the morning of the day itself. Despite a hectic start, the first day began with the first departure in the afternoon.
■ Day 1
A strong northwesterly wind was blowing, and the sea looked gloomy.
Even in November, the water temperature has not dropped, making for a difficult situation typical of Tsushima in recent years, where fishing is dependent on sea conditions.
Although he threw until dusk, the first day ended with him just warming up.
Check in at Toyoko Inn in Izuhara
■ Day 2
We set sail at 7:00. We continued casting in the northeast wind and swell.
And first thing in the morning...
A 2m-class wahoo took a diving bite on my partner Su-chan's lure.
The tragic death of a high-end plug (1).
A small yellowtail jumped out at me, but it wasn't hooked so I was relieved it was a good size.
Just after 10 o'clock, a tidal boll suddenly appeared.
Here again, a huge wahoo breaks the surface of the water and gives Su-chan a diving bite.
The demise of high-end plugs (2).
Immediately afterwards, a large yellowtail chased and bit!
The moment it got hooked...the leader broke.
(Wahoo had hurt him.)
The demise of high-end plugs (3).
Despite all the hardships, I finally got a chance.
The GENIO Popper BIG UP had a quiet sucking bite, like a carp sucking up bread.
Hooked up and caught safely.
The long-awaited first yellowtail, weighing 13kg, was released.
After that, we went jigging with the other angler to conserve our energy.
I took the 5kg class at Rocca and took a cabin break.
Silence continues until dusk...
After a long run, we reached the last point.
The sun was setting at 5:30 p.m.
"Last throw"
That one cast resulted in an unexpected, intense bite!
The hookup was successful and the fish was caught quickly.
Size up to 15kg released!
Each of us caught one fish, making for a great ending.
■ Day 3
We set sail at 7am. The boat was rocked by the swells that remained from the previous day, and we made our second cast from the second point.
There was an intense chase and bite on Su-chan's lure.
After a smooth fight, the fish that was caught was bigger than I had imagined.
Successfully caught and released a 23kg fish first thing in the morning!
What's more, I was happy to catch it using the GENIO Popper “BIGUP”.
The loss of tens of thousands of yen so far has been worth it!
This guy always gets results
As for me, it's business as usual:
Finished with one bite and no catch.
Casting is tiring
■ Overall review
Although we didn't catch many fish on the second and third days, we were able to enjoy a rich time catching some impressive autumn fish. Previously, I struggled to fight them, but by setting the initial drag a little higher, I was able to catch them with ease. The 25 Saltiga is torquey, easy to reel in, and the drag feels like it holds the lure firmly in place.
The sea off Tsushima still has a hint of what's to come. When bait like mahi-mahi or flying fish are floating on the surface, continuously retrieving a popper is effective! Poppers also work well for yellowtail amberjack. The Bigop is currently out of stock, but will be in stock around spring next year. If you time it right, you'll have a good chance of catching a big Tsushima yellowtail! I'm aiming for 20kg myself.

By the way, the Aomori Big Tuna trip that was scheduled to depart from Tsushima was completely canceled due to bad weather.
There's nothing we can do about it - just hope for the next chance.
