I'm heading to Hokkaido this weekend to hunt for bluefin tuna. This time, I'm bringing along ZENAQ's rod and Takeki's proto rod, and it's my first time in over 10 years. Hokkaido is a fascinating place with many interesting fish to catch, not just tuna. My only fishing memory is catching a kokanee salmon at Lake Kussharo and eating it as sashimi. Recently, I heard that 150kg-sized fish are migrating, so I want to put what I've learned this summer to good use. Since last week, I've been running 10km a day for over 80km to strengthen my lower body! I'm sure I can still catch some great fish! I hope I can have a good fishing trip!
And this summer, amberjack jigging in the Tokara area is booming! Many individuals over 40kg have been caught, with some even exceeding 50kg and 60kg. The catches with jigging are impressive, but when it comes to live bait fishing, it's unstoppable. Several large ones are being caught every day. I was talking about this with Captain Momokita of Momotarou, and he told me that it's difficult to release the large amberjack caught from deep waters, so he's catching them out of necessity. Ideally, we'd like to return the large ones alive. We need to come up with a system that makes it easy to create a release environment. I'd really appreciate some advice!
