Hello! Recently, thanks to a wonderful connection, I had the pleasure of a long visit to "Gouki," which has its workshop in Chigasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
The room I was guided to was filled with sample rods nearing completion, and I was able to hear many valuable and in-depth stories about the現場 (genba - site/field) and development.
Among them, I received various proposals regarding "tuna-related rods," which I've been most keenly interested in lately, and I even made an unreasonable request for a special prototype sample.
I heard that in harsh overseas tests, they have already caught numerous fish over 400kg, and in Japan, they have repeatedly conducted thorough tests against fish over 300kg in the extremely fast-current Oshima area. Mr. Kaiken casually mentioned, "Even 300kg class fish can be landed in 20 minutes."
I gasped when I saw the specifications presented. MAX DRAG 40kg!!!
I involuntarily blurted out, "Seriously... is that even possible...?" The overwhelming development capability that makes other companies take notice. The strength of integrated in-house production carried out in the Shonan Chigasaki factory. The unfathomable depth of tuna fishing. The practical MAX DRAG is 40kg, but I believe very few anglers can apply more than 30kg of drag during an actual fight. However, by leaving such a "power advantage" in the blank as a margin, the lifting performance of the rod itself is significantly enhanced, greatly contributing to reducing angler fatigue during long, arduous battles. This is a long-length model that thoroughly pursues the balance between "long-distance casting performance" for targeting boils and "easy catch" after hooking in large recreational fishing boats over 40 feet. This model demonstrates exceptional lifting performance on boats where maneuverability is required, up to 30 feet. Designed specifically to pursue an aggressive fight that gives no initiative to the fish, allowing anglers even without great arm strength to tackle monsters with minimal physical exertion.
Created with the concept of jigging and fighting using a Black Magic gimbal. This model has a meticulously set length to allow the angler to maintain control during power lifts and turns in fall-focused tuna jigging. It features an exquisite blank that bends slowly from tip to butt without being too short, too long, or too stiff. This is a special model designed to catch monsters, pursuing balance in gimbal fights.
This is a standing-specific rod designed to land ultimate monsters head-on using heavy-duty large bait reels like Shimano's Talica. It features a genuine blank forged through thorough practical testing against 300kg-plus fish in the fast-current Izu area, washed by the Kuroshio Current.

Through this workshop visit, I was able to directly experience the "philosophy" flowing deep within the Gouki brand. Gouki Co., Ltd. has its factory in Chigasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture. The representative, Mr. Tsuyoshi Tsurumaki, and the fishing advisor, Mr. Kaiken, are undoubtedly "anglers to the core" before being rod builders.
Why can Gouki rods land monsters over 400kg in just 20 minutes? It's not simply because the carbon or glass blanks are made stiffer and thicker. In big game live bait fishing and bluefin tuna casting, there exists a golden ratio of "bending fulcrum" and "tenacity" that provides immense lifting power and minimizes angler burden.
