Expedition & Equipments

Genkai Sea Bluefin Tuna Expedition.
A Fierce Battle on the Fishing Boat "Miyabi" and the Latest Gear for Conquering Monsters.

For anglers confronting the harsh sea. We present the latest supreme gear and a record of the fierce battles in the Genkai Sea, where giant tuna over 150kg roam.

The Ultimate Arsenal / Latest Equipment for Catching Monsters

To all anglers confronting the harsh sea. This time, through a special connection, we are able to introduce the ultimate gear for targeting monster bluefin tuna!

It is called the "T-BURST 27cm 130g".
This big popper was developed through thorough testing in collaboration with BlueニングHearts by Captain Okada of the fishing boat TRUST, which operates from Lake Hamana to Toyama, to reliably catch monster bluefin tuna. This is a limited-time pre-order until July 31st.

T-BURST 27cm 130g. Designed for monster tuna.

This is a hybrid plug with extremely high buoyancy, recommended for use with large treble hooks such as Decoy's 10/0 or 8/0. It features a special structure that uses highly buoyant balsa wood as the core material and sandwiches it with high-density foamed urethane. The wire, paint, and other parts have been thoroughly reinforced and refined. What's surprising is the calculated weight balance that allows it to "fly" even with thick PE line #12. The vertical shake after landing pulls out highly predatory monster-sized fish from the deep sea.

PRATIKO Tuna Releaser
PRATIKO Tuna Releaser from Italy.

Furthermore, we have received numerous inquiries about the Italian-made fish grip "PRATIKO", which is scheduled to arrive around July 31st to August 3rd. There are few air shipments from Italy, and it has taken some time to secure space, but we appreciate your continued patience.

The Genkai Sea Expedition / Fierce Battle in the Genkai Sea

Now, let's move on to the fishing report. July 1st and 2nd.
Through a fortunate connection, we had the pleasure of being taken care of by Captain Kawai and Chika-san of the "Fishing Boat Miyabi" from Munakata Port, Fukuoka Prefecture. The members for this Genkai Sea bluefin tuna challenge were Captain Yokoyama of "Fishing Boat AFC" from Miyazaki, Su-chan, Sho, and myself, a total of four.

This time, too, it was an "all-release premise" using the PRATIKO releaser. Su-chan and Captain Yokoyama readily agreed to this challenge.

【Day 1 : The brilliance of seasoned techniques】

The sea on the first day, as if responding to the seasoned veterans, presented a wonderful drama. A monster estimated to be around 150kg exploded on the "D-CLAW Beacon" cast by Su-chan. After a breathtaking 25-minute fight, she successfully released the fish by the boat's edge with the Pratiko.

Captain Yokoyama, who followed, also hooked a fish estimated to be around 130kg using a "Carpenter Utahime". After a relentless 35-minute fight, he also successfully released it beautifully by the boat's edge. The sophisticated fights shown by these top-class anglers filled the boat with joy!

【Day 2 : A regretful auto-release and valuable lessons learned】

And on the second day. Finally, a powerful bite from an estimated 150kg-class fish came to me. The rod bent to its limit, and the drag screamed. After an all-out battle, alternating turns with Su-chan to conserve energy, we successfully brought the fish up to the leader.

However, the real trial began there.
While struggling to hook the PRATIKO releaser into its mouth, I was caught off guard for a moment and it counterattacked. At the precise moment I was about to descend from the bow, the main PE line chafed against the bottom of the boat, and the line tragically broke. It turned into an unexpected "auto-release"... It was truly frustrating!

Afterward, when I sought advice from my seniors, I realized there were many things I needed to improve. A monster-sized bluefin tuna cannot be caught by a single angler's strength alone. I learned that a "fateful partnership" and seamless coordination with the captain are paramount.

Although it was a painful loss, it was an incredibly wonderful experience that words cannot express, and I learned a great deal. I can already picture myself being dragged around by monsters in this vast sea again in August (laughs).
