MOCKINGBIRD 245
The Melancholy Reality of the Lure Industry.

Introducing MOCKINGBIRD 245, a new popper for tuna. Why is it only available in two silver colors? Why is this price the "final price"? We reveal the truth behind soaring material costs faced by purely domestic lures.

Thank you for always supporting AMBERJACK. We are finally beginning early pre-orders for the MOCKINGBIRD 245, a slim popper specifically designed for tuna casting. This time, we will explain the detailed reasons why this lure was released early in "only two basic silver colors."

Mockingbird 245
MOCKINGBIRD 245. Launching with two enticing silver colors.

01 It all starts with "Naphtha"

Currently, the turmoil in the Middle East is one of the triggers for ongoing crude oil supply concerns and soaring prices. Many people are feeling this in their daily lives with rising gasoline prices, but the damage to manufacturing sites goes beyond that.

Naphtha, a basic chemical raw material refined from crude oil, is in extreme short supply, and "thinners" and "various solvents" used to dilute and clean paints have disappeared from the market. As a result, we are currently forced to accept repeated and significant price increase requests from paint manufacturers. I believe that opportunistic price increases due to hoarding are also a contributing factor. Once prices rise, they rarely return to their original levels.

02 The reality that foamed urethane is also "petroleum"

The problem isn't just paint. The core of MOCKINGBIRD 245, the blank material that enables the "Hot-toke Method" vertical float—"foamed urethane"—is also a petrochemical product. From the next production lot, in addition to the prices of paint and coating, a significant price increase for the blank material itself has already been confirmed. Therefore, we re-evaluated our production plan and explored ways to offer the finished blanks as affordably as possible by prioritizing their use.

Due to the shortage of thinner, the cost per painting process has skyrocketed.

A significant price increase for the blank material itself is confirmed from the next lot.

Material 03

Various Packaging Materials

Auxiliary materials derived from petroleum, such as packaging vinyl, are also subject to price hikes.

This is not just a problem for offshore plugs; it's a "melancholy reality" engulfing the entire Japanese lure industry. It is becoming structurally impossible to produce high-quality, purely domestic lures at the same prices as before.

03 The conclusion: "Eliminate cosmetics" and "limit price"

Originally, we had planned to offer a variety of cosmetic colorings, such as sardine and pink. However, if we were to pass on the impact of these soaring material costs to the selling price, the balance of the lure as a "consumable item" for targeting large tuna would be disrupted. Our wish is "not to make a lure that anglers hesitate to cast on site because of its price."

That's why we decided to eliminate painting costs and effort, and to produce the product in silver, a base color directly linked to enticing tuna bites. And now, with price increases confirmed for the next production, we've decided to use our current stock of blanks and return them to customers at "the lowest possible launch price" to coincide with the tuna season. *Please note that simple packaging will be used, without headers or instruction manuals.
