Industry Woes
MOCKINGBIRD 245
The depressing reality of the lure industry.
The new tuna popper, Mockingbird 245. Why is it only available in two silver colors? Why is this price the "final price"? We reveal the truth about the soaring material costs faced by purely domestic lures.
Thank you for always choosing AMBERJACK. The tuna casting exclusive slim popper, "MOCKINGBIRD 245", is finally available for early pre-order. This time, we will explain in detail why this lure was released early in "only two basic silver-based colors."
01 It all starts with "naphtha"
Currently, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is one of the triggers for the continued uncertainty in crude oil supply and rising prices. Many people may feel this impact in their daily lives, such as rising gasoline prices, but the damage to manufacturing sites is not limited to that.
Naphtha, a basic chemical raw material refined from crude oil, is in extreme short supply, and thinners and various solvents used to dilute and clean paints have disappeared from the market. As a result, we are currently forced to accept repeated and significant price increase requests from paint manufacturers. I also believe that opportunistic price increases due to hoarding are a cause. Once prices go up, they rarely return to their original levels.

02 The reality that foamed urethane is also "petroleum"
The problem is not just paint. The core of the Mockingbird 245, the blank material that achieves the "hotoke method's" vertical float—"foamed urethane"—is also a petrochemical product. For the next production lot, a significant price increase for the blank material itself, in addition to the cost of paint and coating, has already been confirmed. Therefore, we reviewed our production plan and sought a way to offer the finished blanks as affordably as possible by prioritizing them.
Paints and Solvents
Shortage of thinner drastically increases the cost per painting process.
Foamed Urethane
Significant price increase for the blank material itself confirmed for the next lot.
Various Packaging Materials
Petroleum-derived auxiliary materials, such as packaging vinyl, are also subject to price hikes.
03 The conclusion is to "eliminate cosmetic finishes" and offer "limit pricing"
Originally, we planned to offer a wide range of cosmetic colors, such as sardine and pink. However, if we pass on the wave of rising material costs to the selling price, the balance of a large tuna lure as a "consumable" would be disrupted. "We don't want to create a lure that you hesitate to cast in the field due to its price." That is our desire.
That's why we decided to eliminate painting costs and effort, and to commercialize the silver base color, which directly leads to "enticing bites" from tuna. And now that a price increase for the next production is confirmed, we have decided to use our remaining blanks and give back to our customers with the "lowest possible launch price" to coincide with the start of tuna season. *Please note that the packaging will be simplified, excluding headers and instruction manuals.
Early Pre-order Sale
Reception Period: April 29th (Wednesday) 20:00 〜 May 10th (Sunday) 23:59
*One-time order only, limited to blank stock. Due to rising material costs, this will be the last time this price is offered.
