The Origin / Background of Handling
For the past three years, I've been learning the ropes of monster tuna fishing from Mr. Makoto Kinoshita, a ZENAQ tester. During the summer fishing season, I've been gaining practical experience aboard the Masa-san in Genkai-nada. As a complete novice, I started by learning how to cast a plug. I also went to Tsushima's Takamaru-san for amberjack casting, and I became completely immersed in casting. It's a bit embarrassing to admit, but 20 years ago, I was hooked on dolphinfish casting and GT for about two years, but since then, I hadn't cast a line at all.
The world of casting truly feels like sport fishing itself, where you confront monsters with a flexible physique and mental fortitude. I believe a wonderful era has arrived where we can experience this kind of tension in Japan. When I myself experienced that violent power, I think my adrenaline surged too much, and despite my age, I became completely hooked on bluefin tuna.
Starting this season, I've switched to tackle specifically for monsters. Of course, this includes ZENAQ's Monster Buster TC77, which Mr. Kinoshita was deeply involved in developing as a monster-spec rod. It's a wonderful rod that balances both castability and power.
