Tobizo TC77 Tuna - Monster Buster - DBL
Length: 7' 7"
Lure weight: 80〜230g
Line max: No Limit
Price : ¥ 120,000 (tax excluded)

This monster rod was born solely to catch tuna over 200kg. It can cast lures (80g to 230g plugs) required for the situation and operate them precisely. Furthermore, it allows "anglers of normal physique" to "bend the rod and lift a 200kg tuna." It boasts incredible durability, able to withstand the maximum drag of large reels at a 65-degree angle. The blank molding method [DBL structure], which fundamentally changes the concept of rods, has created an unprecedented monster blank. Equipped with parts suitable for a monster blank, this rod is truly complete for a head-on battle with monster tuna.

Monster Blank
The DBL structure boasts incredible durability, capable of withstanding the maximum drag of existing large reels at a high angle of 65 degrees. It possesses a core flexibility that allows a person to firmly bend the rod, generating power and repulsion the more it is bent. Even in fights with monsters that push beyond limits, the rod strongly assists the angler by lifting while enduring. The length is set at 7 feet 7 inches, which allows for the highest performance in casting, lure operation, and fighting. Its flexible blank allows even lightweight lures to be loaded onto the rod smoothly, enabling precise casting to the target point. This provides a significant advantage in tuna fishing. To challenge monsters beyond human limits, an absolutely reliable blank is essential.

Guide Setting
The guide setting is designed for super large tackle, such as large reels over size 20000 and PE line class 12. Furthermore, the inclusion of assist guides, which significantly reduce line tangles at the rod tip, eliminates line troubles and enables smooth line release and stable long casts. This ensures that valuable big opportunities are not missed.

Hexagon Rubber Grip (PAT.P)
Long fights with monsters make you realize the importance of the front grip. The hexagonal front grip (EVA material), essential for big game rods, is now molded from rubber in a hexagonal shape for the strongest power fights. The tortoiseshell pattern on the surface provides even stronger grip. This is Zenack's conclusion after thorough consideration for long power fights with monsters.

Metal Reel Seat
The load on the reel seat during a fight with a monster over 200kg is unimaginable. This robust metal reel seat is designed with the highest priority on "definitely catching" the fish, allowing you to focus all your attention on the fight. Furthermore, a rubber cushion sheet is used on the reel mounting surface to suppress reel wobbling. This reduces angler stress during fights and repeated casts. *It may peel off with repeated use, but there is no problem with its use if it peels off.

Metal Gimbal + Rubber End
The rod end features a combination of a metal gimbal and a rubber end. The rubber end is for fighting styles that do not use a gimbal. Removing the rubber end allows the gimbal to be used. This 2-way rod end is for the best fighting style. If water penetrates between the gimbal and the rubber cap in rainy weather, the rubber cap may become easier to detach, so please be especially careful when casting.

Development of a truly monstrous blank
The most important blank performance in this rod development was "lifting power that can raise a 200kg fish while bending the rod significantly." With a too stiff blank, the angler cannot endure the fight with a monster. And 100g lures cannot be cast, and lure operation is impossible. However, with a soft blank, it is impossible to even float a 200kg monster, and the blank would easily break. How to solve this contradictory demand? What was needed was a blank that could cast a 100g lure a long distance and allow an "angler of normal physique" to "bend the rod and lift" a 200kg monster. This was the biggest challenge of the "Project Monster Buster." To achieve a satisfactory blank, [blank design] - [bench testing] - [actual fishing tests in the field] were endlessly repeated. And after four seasons of development testing since 2019, the innovative monster blank that forms the backbone of the Tobizo TC77 TUNA - Monster Buster was completed.

What is DBL Structure (Deep Bias Layered Structure) (PAT.P)?
There are infinite blank molding patterns, including the modulus of elasticity, thickness, resin content, fiber angle of carbon material, and the taper design of the mandrel (mold), which are important factors in blank molding. From these infinite combinations, the optimal material is multi-layered (deep) with the optimal fiber direction (bias) and layered. This is a blank design method for creating the body of a heavyweight athlete, so to speak, in a completely different dimension from rods that seek delicacy and lightness. This manufacturing method, which can freely design the required torque and power, satisfied the repulsion, durability, and flexibility required for this monster blank. In development, composing complex carbon materials requires not only high molding technology but also, above all, the painstaking work of finding the optimal choice from an infinite number of combinations.

Incredible 40-minute fight time by Makoto Kinoshita
A 213kg monster tuna was successfully caught in a short 40-minute single fight by one angler. The monster blank truly showed its worth by "bending the rod and lifting the monster."

(Afterword)
Even for me, who is still training in casting, this rod can easily cast lures from 80 grams to about 150 grams. In a fight with a fish over 150 kg, just holding the rod at an angle of 60 degrees or more and enduring puts considerable pressure on the fish. I haven't achieved a single catch yet, but the overall balance of the TC77 is probably unmatched by other rods. It can target monsters, but it's also very versatile as a single rod. It's light enough to be used for other types of fishing. It's incredibly easy to use, so for those considering starting bluefin tuna fishing, this one rod will provide the best experience. The TC77 is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to challenge monsters.

On September 3rd, I accompanied Mr. Kinoshita on a tuna fishing trip with SeaRise in Hokkaido. The purpose, of course, was to actually cast the TC77 and TC80 and get an impression. That day, four of us boarded the SeaRise and cast the TC77 and TC80 with PE12 line. The TC80, which can cast lures within a few meters, is recommended for those with less power or who prioritize casting distance. It is the best weapon for targeting boiling schools. In a boat around 30 feet like this one, it was a bit difficult to handle at times. I was concerned about space when retrieving lures. I thought that if it was a charter with a small number of people where you could take your time to attack, or if it was a large fishing boat where you could utilize the space, the characteristics of the TC80 could be maximized. If it's a shared boat or there's not much space, I feel that the TC77 allows for versatile attacking. I recommend the TC77 as the first rod because of its good balance. Having both the TC80 and TC77 would definitely be a great weapon. The TC77 is a limited production model. The TC80 is a regular lineup.
